NorhTec offers Windows XP drivers for the Gecko Edubook, allowing you to install and run Windows on this 8.9 inch laptop. But the experience isn't exactly perfect.
face it. a vortex68mx 1.2ghz can only be as good as pentium mmx 166mhz.....that's why make it so uncompetitive in retail market because it can't even put a scratch on crappy atom let along other mobile processor and even desktop core 2 duo...
Judging from the way Windows locks up, I would assume it is primarily an issue with running off the SD card. I have a somewhat modified version of Windows Server 2003 on a SanDisk Cruizer that I use for somewhat unusual computer repair situations, and during the first 10 minutes of running that on just about any machine, it locks up just like this one. I would like to see this machine running from a more purpose-built SSD, just out of curiosity.
Use Puppy Linux 5.1 on that bad boy and you'll have SPEED and almost all the programs that a typical Ubuntu user would want. Also, just deactivate all the unnecessary XP services and eye candy to make XP speed up like a rocket.
We have in the manual how to tweak the Edubook how to run XP faster. Also, the heat is from the batteries, not the CPU. We have modified the charger to charge the batteries slower. They now charge in one hour but we are now making it two hours. If you run the unit on batteries or if the charger circuit isn't working the unit is only warm to touch. If you run the unit while charging with the fast charger, the batteries get hot. This is why fast battery chargers have fans.
@xMandalorex rechargeable aa battery's.and when they need replacing they can be found easy. but you can get better system for 200$ thow.

for 200$ this should have a atom.

@norhloudspeaker You've gotta make a version of this with a 64-bit CPU. Right now it's woefully inadequate for running online video.
