This episode of American Dream is about the threat of Quran burnings in America and asks what the implications of such moves are for the US global image.

To discuss this, Brian Becker is joined by Armstrong Williams, a Conservative radio host, and Imam Muhammad al-Asi, from the Washington Islamic Center. Armstrong Williams wrote an article for The Washington Times on Sep. 12 where he essentially declared his own war on Islam, saying Islam has been at war with the rest of the world for 4 centuries, it operates with the voice of force and is trying to conquer the US and the world. There are 25 conflicts in the world, 21 involve Islam and Muslim nations. 67 percent of the Americans are against the building of the Islamic center in Lower Manhattan. They are more distrustful of Islamic extremists today than before.

Imam al-Asi disagrees with Williams, referring to hundreds of military bases on Islamic nations' soils. The current tension in the world is a natural response to aggression. Muslims are not aggressors but they do fight back the occupiers, invaders, and imperialists. From the point of view of the Muslim world the invasion of Iraq was a terrorist action. There is anti-Islamic venom in the western media. The US is using the threat of Islam as a pretext and has imperial ambitions in the Middle East.
