Winner of the Year 9 and 10 section of the JRS Youth Award 2010

St Aloysius College Year 9 and 10

JRS Youth Award

The JRS Youth Award was launched in 2009 with the aim of highlighting the plight of refugees around the world as well as the work undertaken by JRS both in Australia and abroad.

The competition is open to students of all Australian schools in Years 9 to 12, and is divided in two categories: Years 9-10 and Years 11-12. Working in groups of three to five, students are required to engage with the broad topic of refugees and asylum seekers in the following ways:

• Research into the plight of asylum seekers/refugees both in Australia and abroad.
• Interviews (face-to-face, via telephone or email) with asylum seekers/refugees in the community.
• Creation of a multi-media project that summarises the group's findings, provides analysis and offers possible resolutions. Students may choose a format that best represents their ideas: advertisements, radio segments, short films, websites, PowerPoint presentations, artworks or other multi-media platforms.

The award provides schools with a unique opportunity to enhance their social justice programs by collaborating with a global organisation which plays invaluable role both locally and abroad in the provision of services to asylum seekers and refugees. JRS will assist students through access to online resources and by facilitating meetings with refugees and asylum seekers.

Entries are due in early September of each year, and will be judged by a JRS-appointed panel which includes a representative from the Australian refugee community. Winners in each category receive a cash prize.

  • NO FUTURE FOR WHITES... WE ARE BEING INVADED BY THE THIRD WORLD.

  • Brainwashed young people being exploited to make propaganda to hasten the White genocide.

  • @Alphaman7100 We don't accept refugees to be more "multicultural". We accept them because we believe that in their own country they are subject to laws or practices that deny them basic human rights. Imagine if suddenly you and your family were under threat for posting your opinions on youtube. What if your friend was stoned or your uncle was burned to death because they had the wrong last name? As for the whole "white" issue, most of the world's population don't look like you, get used to it!

  • @Alphaman7100 You are the racist one. Your ignorance is disgusting, become educated on the topic before you voice your views.

  • Nobody is saying we must flood African countries with mass immigration to make them more multicultural. Nobody is saying we must flood Asian countries with mass immigration to make them more multicultural. Nobody is saying we must flood South American countries with mass immigration to make them more multicultural.

Multiculturalism and mass immigration into White countries and White countries only is GENOCIDE.

Anti racism is a code word for anti White.

  • @emmylou2807 So you are saying you think people cant spell means they are incompetent? That's funny. I'm sure you're saying you want to take in thousands of asylum seekers who don't know a single word of English.

  • It was never the intention of Australia's founding fathers that this country become the dumping ground for the flotsam and jetsam of this worlds defeated races.

  • @mody2k If they were genuinely escaping from deadly situations, they wouldn't sail halfway across the world for welfare and pensions.

  • Whats the piece of music playing in this video called?

  • @mody2k If its so important to you, would you offer these refugees a place to stay? A roof over their heads, food, water, the basics? No I some how doubt you would because it would be an inconvenience to you and the lifestyle you're accustomed to...Human Rights Treaty? United Nations, the corrupt body who's top human rights council includes Libya, Saudi Arabia, China, Cuba and Russia.... You've yet again completely avoided the fact its Labor's incompetence that caused some 200 deaths.
