This series of books is my all time favorite, hands down. If you love this series as much as I do, then I would be happy to recommend some other titles that are similar. I will also do future book reviews on entirely different genres, so if this kind of book doesn't appeal to you, maybe a future review will!

The author is Diana Gabaldon (rhymes with "stone").
Here are the books, in order:
1. Outlander
2. Dragonfly in Amber
3. Voyager
4. Drums of Autumn
5. The Fiery Cross
6. A Breath of Snow and Ashes

The author's website is www.dianagabaldon.com .

If you've read these books, please let me know what you thought of them!

Happy reading,
Marnie

  • I'm intrigued by these books. And also being of Scottish heritage, I'm wondering what I'll learn about myself!

  • @msellejaysee You will not be disappointed!

  • I`ve just read Daisychains of silence on kindle by Catherine MacLoed,I think it`s very good, would like to know what you think.

  • @colliecover I have never heard of it. I better go check it out!

  • Hi there!

I just came across your youtube channel...love love the Outlander series!! so very happy to see someone who loves them just as much as I do!! When you talked about how the characters really *kinda* engulf you that is how I feel when I am reading these books....:) I always thought that a movie would be very challenging to do...not sure how they would pull it off...although I would like to see Gerald Butler as Jamie!!! :) who would you pick?

    thanks!! have a great day!

  • @Superhadees I wouldn't pick anyone to play Jamie-I hope they never make a movie out of the series. I like to keep it the way I like it in my head. It seems like every movie they make out of one of my favorite books turns out to ruin the book. :)

  • I'm gonna have to read this then! At the bookstore today I was recommended this series. Please please please check out The Tea Rose trilogy by Jennifer Donnelly, cannot say enough good things about this author! Historical fiction with a dash of romance as well.

  • Of all the people to recommend this, my eye doctor today! I'm super excited to go and get them and try them out. :)

  • Just finished The Ripening Time, another one from Catherine MacLoed, you may like the Scotish connection (on Kindle)

  • This series is awesome. Love it.Love it.Love it. When the 7th book, A Breath of Snow and Ashes came out I bought it n was afraid Jamie n Clare were going to die so I stopped reading two wks b/f the fire.Ha! Can we say FREAK! lol I've purchased Echo n now reading them yet again, will finish.Started reading them back in 2003, actually when my husband n I married at Disney.I do curse myself, had a chance to meet Diana at our Library, n of course I look awful so I past on seeing her.:( Blessings!

  • Also, I agree with what you said about making a film of "Outlander". I would really hate to see Hollywood get a hold of the movie rights. There is NO WAY they could do the first book (or the series, for that matter) justice without cutting it to pieces! And, (really IMHO) I can't see any current "known" actors in the roles of Claire and Jamie, can you? (Gerard Butler?! A 22-year-old, 6'4", red-headed, virgin?? Really???! Ya gotta be kidding me!).

  • Just stumbled across your review of the "Outlander" series. I firmly agree with your assessment of the series and Ms. Gabaldon as an author. I, too, will "cry like a baby" when she finishes it (which will be with Claire's and Jamie's deaths, so she says.....). I'm in the process of listening to the series on audiobook. I recommend doing this to get even more out of the books. Audible.com has unabridged versions of all of them with the exception of "Fiery Cross". Thanks for this!
