I originally put this video together for the Ukulele Underground contest, "Spread the Aloha." My wife filmed me at various places on the Big Island playing the song "Upside Down." The experience while getting all the footage together was amazing! We hiked down to secluded black sand beaches, saw giant sea turtles, ate some terrific food. Along the way we met some really great people that we might not have had I not been obsessed with getting ukulele footage. It was a truly rewarding experience!

I don't think I understood "Aloha" when I first decided to enter this contest. In the process of making this video, I think I understand it better. It's being open to the possibilities with a positive attitude. Imagine what kind of world it would be if we all did that!

Aloha!

  • Love this. Any tips on where I can find the tabs and especially the strumming pattern?

  • @mountainpete I got the original tabs off of Chordie. The original chords are E, F#m, A, B, G#m. I changed it to G, Am, C, D, Bm. The strum pattern I came up with is D D D U D U U U D U D U. With the pinky mute or Chunk it would look like D D X U D U U U X U D U (X is the pinky mute or chunk).

    Hope that helps.

  • @supergokou VERY helpful! Thanks for inspiring me to try this song.

  • @mountainpete Your welcome. I'd love to see what you come up with.

  • @supergokou did you change those chords to best suit your voice?

  • @clownnamedmalesto There were two reasons I changed the chords. 1) I found this key to suit my range a bit better than the original, 2) this was the first song I learned, so the E and D chords where a struggle with the pinky mute.

It's been some time now, so pinky mute with D and E is actually easy and I find that I could hit those lower notes, just not that loud.

  • Greeting from Oahu. Mahalo for posting how amazing of sound of ukulele (:

  • @supergokou haha, that's actually funny because that's the reason why I prefer G to Am, I just didn't want to seem like a rookie. Really like the video, I just find it really hard to keep the strum pattern and concentrate on singing but I'm progressing.

  • Love this song and like it alot with the ukulele. I'll have to learn that song

  • Great work, I dig it.
