  • is yours powder coated or high temp paint? does it ever start coming off with heat?

  • @damanadahour

The paint won't come off if you use high temp paint. You will only need to re-paint after several years but not because the paint came off.

  • WHY COULDN'T YOU GUYS COME UP WITH A GLASS DOOR IDEA FOR SALE I WOOD BUY ONE??? LOVE THE OLD TIME LOOK OF THE STOVE A GLASS DOOR WOULD REALLT SET IT OFF IN MY BOOK???? JUST A THOUGHT..

  • @The40gummybear

I was thinking the same thing. We'll work on that so check back with NorthlineExpress in late 2011.

  • did you line the bottom of the barrel with anything?

  • @NewportHillClimber

We didn't line the bottom with anything since we always let the ashes build up which creates a good bed of coals, retains the heat, and helps insulate the bottom. You could line the bottom of the barrel inside with firebricks available at NorthlineExpress.

  • There is a lot of space for a nice casting iron stove also for cooking place. How mutch it cost???

  • you should make a viedo of you making a fire in your wood stove

  • You are wasting wood using this design. Add a secondary burn chamber into the barrel will improve the efficiency.... unless you won't mind hauling wood from mainland to the island all the time.

  • @The40gummybear A few years ago in the uk a man made stoves out of old propane gas cylinders. It featured a glass door made from a heat resistant glass saucepan lid! It need not be your main access for logs,or even open as long as you are able to access the inside for cleaning. The idea might work on an oil barrel. Worth a though,at your own risk of course

  • Where's the rest of your socks?

  • Where's the rest of your jeans?

  • Are you serious? Dressed like that?

  • Myself and a friend fabricated our own barrel stoves ( no kit ) back over 30 years ago.

Both of us had uninsuated farmhouses which would go through heating oil like crazy.

We both had very good results with these type of stoves as they really put out the heat.

    Good memories.

  • Do you have anyone selling these in Australia? Your site is blocking non USA users interested in these products so we can't buy them from your business...

  • How hot do they burn when you throttle it down for the night eh? Exempt? Shouldn't be!
