  • family is keluarga actually

    Jerapah is Arabic....Jirafah

  • @n4rit4 keluarga is "the meaning" of the word "familie" ... this is loaned word ... therefore I think it is more appropriate to link the word familie to kerabat ... as in "saya ingin pergi ke rumah famili saya" ... in this case "famili" means "kerabat".

  • In Dutch we have amok,(rumour), rampok, (fight) senang (happy), klambu (mosquito net), klewang (sword), kampong (village), sate (meat on sticks), nasi (fried rice), krupuk (crisps),sambal ulek (red pepper), pisang( banana), arak (brandy), katjang (foreigner), anak (child)and a lot more.

Not suprising if two nations were in close contact for 3 centuries. Our separation was bloody and tragic and could have been much better.

  • Sometimes I wonder whether it would not be a nice idea to link Indonesia and the Netherlands closer together. By bringing Dutch back into the Indonesian curriculum and admitting Indonesia as a full regulating member into the Dutch Language Union.

The Dutch themselves also use a lot of Indonesian words without thinking twice as helmuthoorn pointed out.

  • "...Malay was one of the three major learned languages of Islamic scholarship. European writers of the 17th and 18th centuries, such as Tavernier, Thomassin and Werndly describe Malay as "language of the learned in all the Indies, like Latin in Europe". It is also the most widely used during British and Dutch colonial era in the Malay Archipelago."- (Wikipedia)

  • @kazzyPA some of the older generation in indonesia still speak dutch. Most of them just never passed down the language to their kids/grandkids, so the Dutch language in Indonesia will most like die with them.

  • Is Directeur and not Directuur !

  • @gilangandikac sayangnya itu tidak terjadi... ratusan tahun di jajah, tapi sampai sekarang bahasa Belanda tidak dipakai untuk kegemaran bahasa asing sama sekali.

  • i cant imagine what would indonesia be if we could speak dutch coz our country is colonized by the dutches. haha it would be freaking amazingg

  • @walterleipzig. Hi! You said: ' Many of the Dutch words come from French, Latin or whatever'. This may be true, but the majority of Dutch words stem from the medieval language 'Diets', which was spoken in the Low Countries and in north western Germany. 'Diets' was a germanic language, which itself had its roots in the Latin language and in Nordic languages. From this word 'Diets' stems the name of our language 'Dutch' (the British could not pronounce 'Diets' right...)

  • There's also a lot of similar vocabulary in Filipino language.

  • there are more that you dont know:

    - Blambeer / Blambir (Pemadam Kebakaran) is used in Indonesian sometimes from the dutch known as: Brandweer that is Fire Brigade / Fire Engine.

-Slop / Selop (Sandal / Sendal) is used in Indonesian from the Dutch Sloop that is sandals.

-Velk / Pelk (Roda ban) is used in Indonesia from the dutch as: Veelk that is wheels or wheel for a tire.

-Kompor (Kompor Masak) is used in Indonesian from the dutch Kompoor that is stove for cooking..

  • Many of the Dutch words come from French, Latin or whatever. One third of English words have a French origin; one third of Spanish is Arabic. So what's the point? (and a few spelling erros in Dutch words as well.)

  • Gua ngerasa org2 Indonesia jaman dulu keren banget ih... bisa macem2 bhs.... Belanda, Jepang, Indonesia, daerah... hehe

Terlepas dari formalitas masalah negara ini itu... Keren banget bahasa Indonesia dan Belanda bisa saling mempengaruhi begini..... x3
