I'm glad you mentioned that side reentry is difficult. I made my first self rescue exercise this morning and couldn't get in from the side.

Made the video when the most of kayaks used were small. So I omitted the side reentry. But now there are many big kayaks available for bigger people, I am Preparing a new Self Rescue Demo video. This new one will be titled as Self rescue Basic III Side Entry. It will be after the mid May, 2010 after a reentry Practice for new kayakers.
Hopefully the new video includes good, bad, and impossible reentry. Also, want to show why big people must buy big kayaks.
