From the special features section of our DVD Model Railroad video vol 1: Modeling a prototype, here's a full train runby of the Coos Bay Hauler East as it rumbles through tunnel 3 just east of Myrtle Point, OR. This train runs daily from Coos Bay to Eugene, OR. This HO model train represents as realistically as possible what you would have seen in July 1984 in Southern Oregon on the SP railroad. Modeling by Joe Fugate.

  • i watch this video everytime im about to go to bed...because its just so boring it puts me right to sleep.

  • Why is it so slow????

  • Slow is good. SMOOTH !!!!!!!

    try : modelspoorbaan 077

  • You have an excellent looking group of hopper cars, ect, that was very nice!!!! Great tunnel work. Thanks for sharing this!!! 5 stars!!!!!!

  • Thats a lot of power for a little train! SP ran big power on long trains other than that the video was good, and yea I run mine slow to. Last month I got greedy and ran my two Blueline AC-6000s at speed with my new controller and bam! Picked a switch onto the siding off the rail onto the edge and over onto the floor! Scrap! O well I have also broke a new SD-70ACe after trying to run at speed along the edge of my layout. It is in the drawer forever more with the two ACs!

  • Yes, it is. So 100 kph is just over 31 cm per second, which is 1/87th of full size.

  • is speed scaled down 1:1? so for HO 1:87? or something, so real speed 100kmh in model terms would be 1.149km/h?

  • Exactly! All people do is run them at extreme speeds, and wonder wy there trains fly of the tracks. Im making a new layout and my trains arnt going to be flying. Nice layout, I thought it was real, no kidding! nice 5/5 all the way man I will be wathing these videos all the time!

  • Nah, we can see his models better this way. Also its good to see a video with the trains not moving at 125+ mph.

  • Finally a video with a realistic train speed.
