@jpell225 Marbury averaged 7.6 assists per game for his career. He was an idiot but knew the game.

I saw games like this as a kid, it was great to see Pete live in action. He's the best to me from that era. Everybody went wild when Pete would make shots to win the game. I miss those days.

Dribble penetration was not that good amongst forwards then as well as team defense. Likewise, it was mostly 5 to 7 man rotation so players really didn't go after it on defense.

@SamuelMoralesJr Alright i'm not going to debate with you anymore cus this is getting me anywhere you have your opinion and I have mine but mine is the one that's right to me!

@chiladin hah, you are mistaken buddy. Ray Allen, Dirk, Peja, Nash are good shooters, but NBA had good shooters back then as well, Jerry West was a good shooter, Walt Frazier too, Oscar Robertson lived on the mid range jumpshot, of course Maravich. What about Rick Barry? Rick Barry wasn't a good shooter. The NBA back then had more shooters than today. Ray Allen mostly, and especially Peja were spot up shooters. Spot up shooters are overrated. Dirk, and Nash are good shooters though.

@chiladin Tim Hardaway wasn't a great ball handler, he just good at faking out his dribbling switch. Iverson was a great ball handler. Pete Maravich was a great offensive player, I rate hiim 10, ball handling 10, his defense, rebounding were garbage though. Maravich is comparable to Kobe, and Jordan in offensive skills, but Maravich didn't have, or use the strength of Jordan. Maravich was a better long range shooter though. Maravich was a modern basketball player before there was any back then.

@chiladin My point is that just because you don't know about the older players doesn't mean you can broadstroke their generation as all poor shooters, or short, unathletic, white guys. Some are just that though. Just like not all players today have low bball IQ's, or are terrible midrange shooters. Just admit that you don't know about the early days, there is no shame in that. No need for silly comparisons that mean nothing.

@chiladin HOF players are rarely the best marksmen. You list the best shooters of today and pit them against who? You don't even say. Of your list only Nash and Dirk are great shooters that create their own shots. 50 years from now no one will remember that these other guys existed. They will think that all players were inefficient and couldn't hit the mid-range jumper. No one will remember Korver, like you dont remember Walker, Jones, Hagan, Twyman. Not even Frazier, or Jerry West apparently.

@Paniro123 So Kobe, Ray Allen, Dirk, Peja, Nash,etc...are not great shooters? Kobe, Dirk, Ginobili are not all-time greats? You are a fool! Nash is like one of the top 3 most efficient shooters in NBA history. Ray Allen in the greatest marksmen.CP3, Kobe, Wade, Deron, Rose,etc...all have exceptional basketball IQ's. Like I said name me your top 5 best shooters from that era and today's top 5 are better. Players didn't start being great shooters until the 80's!
Marbury???! Did that guy mention Marbury and Maravich in the same sentence?? Shoot him please.

Its amazing how much better player's basketball skills were back in the day. Now too many players rely soley on athleticism and don't have fundamentals worth a shit. Most of them can't even consistently hit a jump shot.
