Actually with the song Is That You?, Kid Rock wasn't a big name, just a local name in Mt. Clemens. He was just starting out with his first LP Grits Sandwitches for Breakfast. He was on that album to help both of their careers. Sorta like a "Hey, we're both from Michigan so you scratch my back I'll scratch yours." Sorry about being so precise.
