Why aren't LRK's books movies yet? I saw Susannah Harker in the episode The Dying Detective and thought she'd make a good Russell, so I made this sappy thing.

Clips are from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who, song used is Talk Show Host by Radiohead, characters created by Arthur Conan Doyle and Laurie R King, I don't own anything.

  • I'm afraid I will always think of Susannah Harker as Joan Redfern.

This is really good, although I confess I'm not much of a fan of the Mary Russel series. I've only read the first, and she does actually seem like rather a Mary Sue. I mean, a fifteen-year old girl as smart as Holmes?

    Sorry.

This was really, really good, though.

  • Thanks so much for liking it :)

Re: the dreaded Sue - Russell's intelligence had no outlet before she met Holmes, and she falls in love with his knowledge and the world his teaching opens up to her long before any romantic entanglements begin.

Carry on with Monstrous Regiment, as an adult Russell is very much her own person, not a Sue at all. It's a very human partnership, and a very cautious one. Please do carry on; this vid makes it look WAY more Sue-ish than the books!

  • Bravo! Thank you for posting this. Wonderful work and the first Russell / Holmes I've seen.

  • Thank you! I hope someone somewhere takes it on themselves to make more .......... anyone?

  • Thank you for this, I have & love all the books. I've read them all w/ Jeremy Brett in mind (he's perfect - so dark & beautiful) my sister & I push these books on all our friends. The video fits the tone perfectly - it's not sappy at all! I find the books so romantic right from the 1st one. anyone who reads should be required to watch this. Thank you again.

  • excellent video. Love the MR boks . No Jeremy Brett alas, but Richard Armitage has the requisite height and agility and he is ace at brooding and intospection

( see his Guy of Gisbourne stuff.) SH a bit too neat for Russell . I picture her as 'messy' how about Kiera Knightly she is sort of lanky like Russell

    Cheers

  • Well done! But she is still Mrs. Savage and Holmes wasn't interested in her at all.

  • @prolifeprincess Oh, an if they make a movie, i think they would have to find just the right actor and actress, because that would make or break it. I LOVEEEEE Brett! :( He would've been perfect. I don't really like this girl. She should look more...nerdy? Def glasses, long hair, tall, and young. A movie would be very cool though! :)

  • Ahhhh, i am an obsessed Sherlockian who just recently found this series. I was absolutely prepared to hate it, just as Russell was to Watson! But, i admit it, it is awfully good! I ordered the first 3 books, read the first, and then the 3rd came so i waited telling myself that i HAD to read them in order. Well, the 2nd still hasn't come and i've read the 1st and 3rd about 20 times..... hahaha. That screwed me up! Eagerly awaiting A Monstrous Regiment of Women!!!

  • These books would make amazing movies, cos books are amazing. ESPECIALLY The Beekeeper's Apprentice.

  • Hot damn this is awesome. At first I kept getting stuck on the fact that S. Harker looks nothing like the Russell in my head (as it were), but your editing is seriously superb. Kudos!

  • Russell cannot do without her spectacles.
