Take the "A" Train - Bill Watrous 2007

This was an encore tune and we've asked Bill to play solo just before this tune on the stage suddenly. He didn't know what arrangement we're going to play that's why he didn't play at 2:04. He has a incredible talent of course and he is a gentleman. Unfortunately PA was not so good but everyone knows his great performance. Thank you very much, Bill !!

Solo before 2:04 wasn't very good. Seemed strained, weak. Missed finding the right notes. Band was solid, though.

@londonbill100 There will never be another Fontana nor Bill W., these guys practised their horns long hours (I remember talking to Bill one night and him telling me that he had just practised his horn for 16 hrs the day before).  In today's world of video games, internet porn, and electronics, practising an instrument for hrs at a time seems unlikely. By the way, Fontana is the greatest t-bone player that ever lived, even Bill W. will say this. Cheers.

Over the years I've heard so many player criticise Watrous and I believe there's a very good reason for that.

Most styles can be copied but his can't, and that frustrates people.

He has the uncanny ability to play in such a technically demanding way, but still remain musical and lyrical.

I've heard all the latest generation of trombonists, and not one can hold a candle to Watrous, or indeed any of his generation, like Fontana, etc.

You know why Bill Watrous play so quite and slow? he said because every trombonist play with fancy stuff, he would just be the same as very other trombonists if he plays like that; that's HIS style. Clearly you do not know jazz at all, all you can hear is the sound he is making, but what's more important is what notes he chooses to fit into that chord and make it sounds good.

for all those who think bill watrous is no good should be killed unless you can do wat he does then you have no right to say anythin go listen to his solo in tiger of san pedro if you can do that i will take back wat i said if you cant dont complain this man is one of the greats respect him

Is a shame all this you write here;may be nobody can do the most elementary things he does with or without a mic! you better go to school and try to learn.Criticize is for the LOSERS! Who can´t get the succsses! BILL WATROUS is a great musician!
