Total nonsense! This practice is unhealthy! I am a chef and own several restaurants. Acetone and most SS cleaners are toxic and applying oil will collect dust and germs. Health dept. inspectors would cite you for this practice.

@belau101, I might try a SS cleaner, but, I'd rather give Go Jo (see below) a go again. Our range hood covers a center island, is huge, and has not seen a real cleaning for years. When last I cleaned it inside and out, I used the white creme hand cleaner and wet cloths. Today I use cheap microfiber cloths from the auto parts store for household cleaning, and Go Jo. I try now to avoid chemical brews and "non toxic" cleaners. So many things we presume are safe, are known to be toxic, or worse

I can claim some experience, and say without fear of contradiction: applying vegetable oil or any edible oil will soon result in a gummy, dull, sticky film. You all know what I like best, and is safest? Brush on white creme mechanic's hand cleaner. Go Jo is one such brand. Then wipe it off. Rinsing is optional. Make sure it's plain old fashioned (no pumice) creme hand cleaner in the tub, for pumice would (re)scratch SS. I will clean a range hood today. It's a mess but not for long. GoJo.

Well that is the exact same bowl I have on my Kitchen-Aid mixer, I don't wipe the inside down, only after I have used my mixer, I wash it out well, then dry it. Then to keep it really clean between uses, I just place the custom made cover over the mixer, that keeps the bowl really clean and dust free!

"..and if you're still having problems after the alcohol, I'd suggest getting a stainless steel cleaner from the store".
I'm sorry, but that'll never help my alcohol problem.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy Stainless Steel cleaner at the store? Or you could just do what she does and use the redneck method. Yeehar!!
