This is part 1 of the pre-rendered cut scenes seen in the Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, respectively subtitled Tides of War and Operation Resurrection.

In the PC version of RTCW, all cut scenes save for the introduction movie were rendered in-game in real time. For the console ports, it seems the developers decided convert all of these bits into pre-rendered clips, thus allowing for fancier animations (Particularly facial expressions) and enhanced visual effects. All of the cut scenes pertaining to the console-exclusive Egypt missions received the pre-rendering treatment (Incidentally the first time B.J. ever speaks) while the original levels only had the OSA meetings upgraded.

I did not include the introduction movie common to all versions or the cinematics that were simply in-game recordings. These are direct conversions of the source Bink video files from the Xbox port.

  • Meh. The console prologue spoils the supernatural element right away. So the castle escape and the horrors found in the catacombs feel much less satisfying since you had already seen so much early on.

Also in RTCW, the dryness of the narrative is part of the experience. Cutscenes work if the game is designed accordingly, ie Halo. But tacking (bland) cutscenes on an old school corridor crawler actually takes away from the feeling of dread and loneliness it relies on. I prefer not hearing BJ.

  • Thanks for these (:

  • At least in the XBox version, BJ isn't a mute and your fellow agent is actually useful.

  • dammit, i never saw these, these are great. i used the pc version, should of got it for xbox

  • graphics now look like the pre rendered graphics 10 years ago, hopefully in 10 years graphics will look like pre rendered graphics we have now.

  • Helga had no common sense whatsoever. She ended up paying the price for being impatient. Serves her right.

  • so, agent one is british... pretty kickass if you ask me

  • They have an extended edition for PC, it has all this as well. I played it on the Xbox with my friend and we loved it which made me buy the PC version (normal 2001). The tombs were awesome, missed out on my version but I'm sure there is a download somewhere. We always found the tombs really fun but then the catacombs felt scarier, of course I knew what was coming on the PC lol...

  • @dallescowboyssuck His first name is actually William, you find out in the new Wolfenstein and possibly in this one as well. William BJ Blascowcz
