Because they are a cool animal to whach, this guy doesn't know how to take car of his because it's a brackish, not freshwater fish. Most of the species kept at home get under three feet, not the big ones that can harm divers.

The eel sold as a "freshwater moray" (gymnothorax tile) is really a brackish fish, so unless you can raise the salinity in your tank to a comfortable level, he won't thrive. We had to give our Tile his own tank, as he had stopped eating. They are usually born in freshwater but as they mature they move towards brackish or even seawater, so you can't keep them healthy in a freshwater tank for long.

As long as the other fish are much bigger, he won't eat them.

With other agressive fish like a knife and an oscar I dont think an eel would be a good idea. If you do get one, they seem to enjoy ghost shrimp and feeder fish
