This is a restored Emerson 73668 from about 1928 that was given to me by a nice AFCA member while I was visiting St. Louis for the holidays. It has six brass blades and a 6 pole motor which makes it really quiet but it still pushes a fairly decent amount of air. I use it in my office to cool me off when the need arises.

  • Why even have fan cage on it @ all? Seriously, I can fit a whole baby into the blades.

  • @Dustar007 The cage is there to protect the very expensive blades from getting damaged, not to protect peoples fingers.

  • Nice fan! I like the fans that have an unusual amount of blades.

  • I rather like this one myself. It is my first 6 blade fan. I have a twin to this one with original paint I plan to get around to restoring soon.

  • Interesting how there's not much difference between the speeds. Those aren't really meant for all out power, their forte is quiet running.

  • You can tell the difference when it is blowing on you between all of the speeds but yes the difference between high and low isn't very far apart. still low is more than powerful enough for most use in a smaller room. and high will certainly give you a decently powerful breeze.

  • These American fans were made to run best on 110VAC (if AC-wound).

When we run them on today's common 120 or more, VAC, the fans work fine, but run too strong, and their speed reactance coils do not have near so much "hi-med-lo" control ability. Try running an old fan on 110VAC in the USA, and it will be quieter, cooler-running, and have really clearly different speeds. It won't buzz. See my video if interested, "japan black recreated reidsteam" if you like to see original "paint" from the era

  • To any one worried about being able to fit a whole baby in the blades, please try to remember, That is not what babies are for. Why would anyone want to do that? This fan was made way back when people even graduating 3 rd grade knew, that it was a bad idea to put things like fingers and such in a contraption like this. Back then, if you got hurt, you got an education. We kept stuff like this out of reach of babies, and didnt blame our stupidity on someone else. Simpler times, gone for good.

  • beautiful fan! they were meant to be quiet and this one still is.

  • From my experience in fan collecting, apparently, the Emersons and even most Westinghouses do have a narrow range of speeds. But luckily, the GEs generally have a much wider difference of speeds.

  • One of my hobbies is collecting antique fans, and from my experiences, it seems that the GEs have a much larger difference of speeds than Emersons and even most Westinghouses.

  • That is a very very nice fan! I am definetly going to start saving money for one of these.
