Freight Train in Halifax, Nova Scotia July 1st 2011 These are GM GP40 loco and autorack cars, very common in USA & Canada.

  • Spotting features of the GP38 series is two fans on the radiator and the boxy piece on the roof for the air filters. Also two small exhaust stacks in the middle part of the roof (between the radiator and the air filter box). The air filter box is a signature feature of the 38 series.

    GP40 series has 3 radiator fans and a single large exhaust stack for the turbocharger.

  • Difference is the cab. The first unit has a Comfort Cab or wide nose (hence the "W") The second unit has a standard or "Spartan" cab.
