@kingstaffy actually in the old day (20-30yrs ago)muay thai just use same rule with muay burma. but because of hardcore martial art that's why muay thai have to adapt rule to try to make it more sport.Infact muay thai-burma come from same root and combination in 16th when King Bayennon occupie thailand during 12 many king of art has absorb to both country.

Nakorn..I have yet to see one Burmese woman working in Pattaya. I have seen Cambodians but mostly the girls come from Isaan.

In reality..Laos,Cambodia,Malaysi­a,Vietnam AND Thailand have always had a form of fighting that resembles this. In Thailand it got commercial,adapted english boxing weights and gloves and evolved into Muay Thai.

thailand doesn't want to let the smaller, less popular sports get on their bandwagon. Thailand has worked really hard to promote their sport around the world and they don't want to change the name now after they have created a commercial empire on thai boxing. Think of all the shirts and boxing shorts they sell with muay thai written on them. I don't think it's because thailand thinks they're better than burma or myanmar.
