Andy Whitfield (Amlwch, 17 luglio 1974 -- Sydney, 11 settembre 2011) è stato un attore e modello gallese naturalizzato australiano.

Nato in Galles da Robert e Pat Whitfield, nel 1974, all'età di ventisette anni si trasferisce in Australia. Prima di decidere di intraprendere l'attività di attore ha lavorato per diverso tempo come ingegnere. Ha studiato recitazione alla Screenwise Film & TV School for Actors di Sydney e ha lavorato come modello, partecipando a circa quaranta campagne pubblicitarie tra Europa e Asia.
Debutta come attore in un episodio della serie televisiva All Saints, successivamente ottiene il ruolo principale nel film Gabriel - La furia degli angeli. La sua carriera continua con diversi lavori televisivi, in serie come The Strip, Packed to the Rafters e Le sorelle McLeod.
Nel 2010 acquista popolarità grazie alla serie televisiva Spartacus - Sangue e sabbia, in cui interpreta il ruolo di un guerriero trace catturato dalle legioni romane e trasformato in seguito in gladiatore. "Il Trace" viene ribattezzato come "Spartacus" in onore dell'omonimo Spartaco, celebre re dei Traci.

Era sposato con Vashti Whitfield, da cui ha avuto due figli. Nel marzo del 2010, durante un controllo di routine, gli viene diagnosticato un linfoma non Hodgkin.L'attore si è sottoposto immediatamente alle cure necessarie, interrompendo le riprese della serie che lo ha reso famoso.È morto l'11 settembre 2011, all'età di 37 anni.

ill miss you andy but we all fans of the series have to give Stars props they put the show on hold went back and film a prequel to let andy heal and come back and do another season. I can tell that the studio really cared about him. That's really cool, if only he had could still be alive. RIP my friend you are Spartacus.

@tuonglan282 like the post i posted, look at his career ... he became realy famous very fast and the last role we seen him in he was Gabriel an angel, a soldier of God , not an idol ancient Gods worshiper and murderer then he was gone. i think its kinda strange. its like he was meant to play his roles like he did, he came and left and no one really knew him then everyone almost knew and loved him , like it was meant to be

ANDY Whitfieldmade me really wonder what the real Spartacus was like,he portrayed a loving man turn into a beast, and that made me wonder wat the actual1 was like because there was a man that this happened 2and he became enough beast to make history!

And he was amazing in Gabriel!

Its kind of crazy how he became so famous so fast and before he died his last role was that of a soldier of God, an angel!, not a murderer and sinner of roman times, i mean really look at it like that,its kinda crazy!?

andy was the BEST portrayer of any human back in the roman/gladiatorial days.. spartacus is my all-time favorite show and season one had the most epic moments i've ever witnessed on tv. RIP Andy.. YOU-ARE-SPARTACUS!!
