The MPC 5000 is Akai's new flagship music production center. However, it lacks several features found in the discontinued MPC 4000. A key missing feature is support for keygroup programming which is useful for building multisampled instrument programs. This has caused heated debate causing the MPC 5000 to receive mixed reviews. While it doesn't currently support keygroup type programming, it can still certainly create programs from multi-samples (like ALL legacy MPCs). The 5K has full ADSR Amp/Filter envelopes as well as a LFO to further shape sample sounds/instruments. This video is an audio example of the MPC 5000 in use. The 5K was used to sample 16 piano notes. The program/sample tuning feature was used to map the samples to a 5K sample program. This resulting program was used in this original composition. I used the 5Ks onboard Reverb-Small effect on the piano patch. Please visit www.mpc-forums.com for future tutorials on how to get the most out of the MPC 5000.

Hey. do you have to manually tune and assign the 16 notes to other notes or does the MPC do it for you?
I have many multi sample instruments, like 2 notes of each octave. Would it be a quick process to create such programs or would it be all manual? Another thing, can you use more than one keygroup program at a time? like a multi-sample piano for a few tracks, a multisample string for another track, all within the same sequence?
