Dr. Harold C. Urschel III discusses addiction as a chronic disease of the brain, how to treat addiction using proven scientific research, and shares his thoughts on research into genetic-based addiction treatment on FOX News February 9, 2011.
Addiction is a brain disease. My 22 yr old son died from addiction to his prescription drug Ritalin or methylphenidate. He began abusing his Ritalin to help him excell in college. He had a 3.85 GPA until his soph. year, when he lost control. He was only supposed to take 3 pills a day, but could take as many as 32 a day (20 mg ea.)Sean tried to get help but was kicked out of Memorial Herman PaRC after detox and 2 wks of in patient. He died at halfway house 7 days later. I hate he was in shame.
