I have a wierd problem with a lucas pump;
sometimes rough idle and occasional top end missfire, it has a modular advance solonoid that controls lift pressure that effects advance cylinder/piston, when I advance timing idle improves.
I have no air leak.
I suspect the advance system - regulator valve etc?
Any advice?

Yes, for all the types of BOSCH pumps there is a script with parameters. You have to heat the test oil till prescribed temperature, you must use the right type of injectors and then checking the amount of fuel for diferent stages of rotations and set the pumo in right parameters.
