Optimus Primal is completely different from Optimus Prime. His name comes from his ancestor Optimus Prime as Primal took it to honor the name. Primal is not a soldier originally he and his crew were on a deep space exploration...and were attacked by predacons and crash landed on Earth with the predacons as the maximals fired a desperation shot which was luckily a success-it hit the predacon ship.
