The mellifluous voice of Albert Fry (one time President of the Gaelic League - Uachtarán Conradh na Gaeilge )

Lyrics

Thíos i lár an ghleanna tráthnóna beag aréir
Agus an drúcht 'na dheora geala ina luí ar bharr an fhéir
'S ea casadh domhsa an ainnir ab áille gnúis is pearsa
'S í sheol mo stuaim chun seachráin tráthnóna beag aréir

Agus a Rí, nár lách ár n-ealaín 'gabháil síos an gleann aréir
Ag éalú fríd an chanach agus ciúineas ins an spéir
A rún mo chléibh, nár mhilis ár súgradh croí 's nár ghairid
Ó, 's a Rí na glóire gile, tabhair ar ais an oíche aréir

Dá bhfaighinnse arís cead pilleadh agus labhairt le grá mo chléibh
Nó dá bhrfaighinnse buaidh ar chinniúint cér mhiste liom fán tsaol?
Shiúlfainn leat fríd chanach is fríd mhéilte ar chiumhais na mara
Agus dúiche Dé dá gcaillfinn go bpógfainnse do bhéal

Agus a Rí, nár lách ár n-ealaín 'gabháil síos an gleann aréir
Ag éalú fríd an chanach agus ciúineas ins an spéir
A rún mo chléibh, nár mhilis ár súgradh croí 's nár ghairid
Ó, 's a Rí na glóire gile, tabhair ar ais an oíche aréir

  • sounds like a beautiful song.. Are the lyrics available in English? Caherciveen, County Kerry... That is where my ancestors came from before they emigrated to South Africa in 1815.. ( I'm the first one back..) Wish I knew where Dr. Geoffrey O'Connell was buried...

  • @UISTMAN59 You're right, I checked on Googael and it matchismos almost exactly, I've obviously never been there, car travel, see, thanks.

  • Is this the RTE version from 1979 as requested by Nuala O'faolain?

  • maith thú

  • @UISTMAN59 Go mo leithscéal ar son an mheancóg sin. D'amharc mé gasta ar an ainm agus rinne me botún. Tá conaí orm in aice leis an bheirt eile a chanannan Amhrán breá sin ar YouTube; Máire Ní Bhraonainn agus Roisín Mac Cumhaill.

  • @UISTMAN59 Thank you :-)
