This is my version of Horst Jankowski's 1965 hit.played on the Hammond A-100. Piano patch played on the Yamaha DX7II. Thought I'd finally try for the first time the Hammond auto-vari rhythm unit (i.e. drum machine) I bought on ebay a few years ago. I used it sparingly on just a few parts. The thing drives me nuts. I admire the players that can use them effectively. Unfortunately, me and drum machines just don't get along for some reason. You may find this one for sale on ebay some day.

  • You beat me to this one, my friend! It's on my list for uploads! Did you know that this original Horst Jankowski 45 rpm release had, as its "B" side, "Nola" which I recently uploaded and which you commented on?

Maybe I'll hold off for a while to upload my version of this song -- it's difficult to compete with your terrific style!

  • @dunlapds2 Well Thanks David! But you know any version you do will run circles around mine. I'm just a Hammond Organ, you have a full orchestra at your fingertips. And I did not know that Horst recorded Nola. Just found it on youtube. I still like your version better. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Now i stumbled across this tune and i am fascinated by the warm tube sound and the powerful spring reverb that comes over!! This is unusual great for YT.

I'm german (where the Black Forest is coming from) and i own a german Dr. Boehm (transistor) organ CnT/L of the seventies. I try to adapt the sound with a lot of tricks (as phasing rotor, tube amp, spring reverb and sinus filters, offered by Dr.Boehm - but you can't beat the typical original sound of these Hammond-glissandos.

    Best regards,

  • Very nice

  • Very clean, very crisp, very listenable. Thanks. Bob

  • I like the rhythm unit. It went good with this song. I have one but don't know how to wire it up. After watching your video, it makes me want to pull it back out.

  • Nice one, Steve !... Thanks for sharing.

    Cyrille.

  • Well played and arranged Steve, just goes to prove you don't need the latest all singing and dancing stuff to make good music.

    Thanks Keith
