  • As a new alif-baa learner I have had trouble distinguishing the shape of daal from baa-taa-thaa and nun. Aside from the dots, and that the daal doesn't connect to the following letter, what is the main difference in shape? That the daal is higher? The angle of the vertical part of the letter? Both? Thanks for great lessons, they are helping me a lot and your presentation is getting better with each lesson.

  • Hi :)

well it simple. Baa-Taa-Thaa family is a boat shape that flaots on the line. Noon is like baa-taa when in the begining and middle. but at the end or seperate is like a deap basket that goes under the line.

as for the dal, you dont connect it for behind only from the front, and the angle of the dal is a bit more than 90 degrees. and no part of it goes under the line. plus as you said the vertical line that starts the daal is normally higher than the baa -taa notches

  • this is most helpful God bless you. I can hear the difference between the last letter of lessonthree and the first letterof this lesson. Basically, you need to understand that understand that English only uses the front of the mouth to make (relevent) sounds that provide meaning. I.E. english has all its meaning in the differnece of sounds between the tongue, lips, and teeth. three factors. Arabic, on the other hand, adds a 4th (or even 5th)dimension: the throat (or even topa nd bottum of it).

  • :D thanks for the extra info!

  • My problems with the phonetics started! I can't hear the difference between the last letter of lesson 3 and the first letter of this lesson. Is there any way you could help me please? Thanks a lot.

  • i'll be sure to make a vid to deal with pronunciation differences in details :)
