A few rounds of CCI .22 sub sonic ammo (1,050 FPS) shot from a Sig Sauer Mosquito with and without a Silencerco Sparrow suppressor. The suppressor significantly decreased the noise when firing. Some aspects of suppressing a .22 semi-auto are discussed.

  • taurran: Thanks for the suggestion--that makes sense.

TPayneNFA: The suppressor is a Silencerco Sparrow. I find my Ruger cycles cheap ammo pretty well as long as I keep the slide clean. The most reliable .22 semi pistol I've ever shot/owned is the Buckmark. Very reliable even without cleaning and after many rounds.

  • @slidekta i cannot explain the stupidity...ill try though. even if there is no barrell, the initial velocity is different because of the different amounts of powder in a subsonic round and a supersonic round. in summary, there is a difference between ammo in pistols no matter the barrel length due to the amount of powder charge and the size of the .22 projectile. also in summary, your dumb.

  • if you want it to whisper hold the slide in place with your thumb while you shoot. it sounds like a sniffle. otherwise expect failures because subsonic ammo is so weak. for plinking use some minimags or something similar. And the lesson is do what you want because its your own money and time.

  • @MrLearnSomeStuff you are absolutely right :)

  • The lesson here is... don't buy a Sig Sauer in 22LR. Stick with a center-fire cartridge.

  • i got a weaker spring, and a stronger one with my mosquito, and it reloads perfect with the weaker one and subsonic ammunition.

  • @slidekta Ammo types makes a difference in EVERY type of gun

simple physics, just cause the powder charge is enough to send a 55 grain bullet out the barrel doesnt mean theres enough force to send a 7.7 oz slide (actual weight of side on my mosquito) thats not even including the ft/lbs of energy needed to compress spring. simple test fire a CB-MAtch threw your .22, it sends a bullet down range but wont rack my slide even the slightest

    just saying

  • Trust me, swap it out to the softer spring makes a world of difference.

  • there is no difference between subsonic and regular ammo in pistols because the barrel is so short
