@righttrackbaby she is just mainstream and have a very good pr and media team backing her. THATS THE DIFFERENCE. MIA is meant to be for the indie scene or a niche market of listeners because a lot of people would not want to hear about political stuff but more about their vanities and glorifying it.In terms of creative output, MIA has a more successful mix of influences; socio political stuff, storyteling, ambient music, cutural tints, street fashion, street art, rebellion (the real deal).

At the end of the day Lady Gaga has achieved more in the music industry then M.I.A ever has, I love M.I.A but it's ridiculous to compare them, Lady Gaga is a constant performance piece, she uses fashion, music and art to convey a message that is rather clear - Lady Gaga emphasizes the idea that you are too define your own beauty - M.I.A has a specific political agenda and she goes about it in her own STYLE, they are TWO VERY DIFFERENT ARTISTS. Gaga is a grammy award winning, pop ICON.
