The Rules of the Game (Les Règles du Jeu, 1939) of Jean Renoir is one of the world most famous movie.
In this scene, we can see the two triplet of "lovers": André Jurieux, Christine and Robert de la Chesnaye and the 3 servants Marceau, Édouard and Lisette.

Why Totentanz?
Maybe both Listz and Renoir had the same taste to mix bourgeois and popular's concepts :)

  • This is not Liszt's Totentanz, but Saint-Saen's Dance Macabre - which had already become a popular music hall treat in its transcription (this may be the Liszt transcription). It is a wonderful dynamic piece- allot of fun and has introduced countless children to Classical Music.
