Couldn't she also just say she was clumsy to express her point of view of herself to help develop character instead of having to prove that she was clumsy to the reader?

@Gaharian When we see her being clumsy, we get to know her, but if it just says, "She was clumsy," well, we don't really get to know her because it's a generic piece of information. Where as, writing about how she dropped an egg that was carefully placed in her hand, gives us specific information. It is by specific information that we grow close to humans in real life, not by generic.

The molded plastic walls of the air tight laborotory are tinted green under the harsh flourescent lights. Monitoring equiptment lines the walls. A heavy set bearded man watches intently through an observation portal.
Human figures in full face oxygen masks and contamination suits watch as two blue cat like figures lay on gurneys in the center of the room.

There we go. You have set the scene, and now you can describe the action.
