http://www.howtomarketalawfirm.com I originally shot this for my Members. But a few of them shared it with a few of their friends and before you know it I was getting tons of requests for this lesson on How To Write A Lawyer Bio That DOESN'T Suck! Because most lawyer bios really do.

And by "Suck" I mean that MOST lawyer bios fail to accomplish the Top 3 Goals EVERY LAWYER should have for putting a bio up on your website, in a brochure, in a CV to accompany a speech or RFP or anything else you're ever going to do that logically requires a bio:

# 1 - Convert prospective clients into paying clients;
# 2 Inspire current paying clients to become more cooperative and willing to pay you for more than just being a great legal; and
# 3 Assure potential referral sources that you're not going to embarrass them if they put THEIR reputation on the line and actually make a referral to you.

If your bio isn't doing AT LEAST all three, it sucks. Sorry if I'm the one who had to tell you.

  • The best advice! But, in reality, is it possible? I find it a little difficult to be taken seriously as a young female lawyer without relying on credentials and lawyerish stiffness.
