Strawberry fields in Central Park is a memorial to John Lennon who was assassinated outside the Dakota building nearby in December 1980.
The plaque on the park bench reads:
" In Memoriam. To all who lost their lives on 9/11/01. A gift to the people of New York from the people of Liverpool, UK."

Man of strange contradictions.
Appeared to be against capitalism-- the source of his wealth and influence.
Was for peace at any cost--but chose to live in a country founded in guns and war.
Was seeking safety--but went to N.Y. to live!
Anyone with nothing to kill or die for--has little reason to live himself.
Hard to understand unless you're a Hippie.

@Varianna12 nor would he have approved of the vendors set up in strawberry fields, profiting from his death.

Dang. I'm surprised to see the American flag flies over the Dakota commune.
(Lennon would not have approved)

I went to Strawberry Fields in Central Park in 2005, the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's Death. I could not even come close to the mosaic because of the mob of people that were there. Every news camera possible was there and tons of John Lennon fans, mostly those born after John Lennon's death. I am glad to see that the mosaic is in fairly decent condition and that it was never destroyed.
