This was one of the most informative and direct instructional videos I've found. Thank you so much for making YouTube a better place. :)
Time Machine is poorly designed, but a very valuable tool to have. Thanks for improving my understanding of it.

Does this work if you've lost a file before you set up TimeMachine?
CalumDaCrazyMonster 1 month ago
@CalumDaCrazyMonster Time Machine can only back up files that exist. If a file was lost and didn't have a place on your hard drive when you set up Time Machine you won't be able to get it back through Time Machine.

What does it mean when some of the dates on the dateline are purple in colour?

@Admin4059 This page seems to have the answer to that:

Hi, my 1tb back up drive for time machine is getting full, what happens when it full up? Does time machine alert me and I have to buy another one or what should I do? Sorry, new to macs! Thx

@psycho79x Time Machine manages disk space. Once the disk is full it erases the oldest backups to make room for newer ones. It may put up an alert to tell you or it may just do it silently.
Remember that Time Machine is for backups not for archives. If you need a permanent copy of a file make an archive copy somewhere, such as on a different external drive.
