Ah, the memories! The drive-in was a regular Saturday night event when I was growing up and even as an adult. The old drive-in where I live was torn down a few years ago but until they closed in 2003, they played this old Buttercup popcorn ad along with several other of the vintage Snack Bar intermission ads. Until now, I didn't even know there were other versions of that ad. Thanks for posting this!

How does that guy get Buttercup Popcorn when he's sitting on a girder forty stories up?
-
This version has such wonderfully munchy, crisp and crunchy sound quality too!
It- beats - all- the - rest! (The rest of the versions on YouTube, that is.)
No one back in 1955 could ever have envisioned a time when people would be able to watch such trivial things (to their minds) as this short film, in their own homes, at their whim. Or that anyone could ever possibly WANT to do that.

A few more frames are missing from the "familiar" second version of this ad, 'Watcher', including the word "cream" from the "sweet cream butter" portion of the jingle. 'vitaphone', however, has done a commendable job of preserving this original version. Thanks!

You did a sterling job on the transfer. It came across amazingly intact.

Despite the occasional jump due to broken film, this is a very good transfer in both picture and sound quality - as the original content so richly deserves.

A couple of changes besides the depicted butter dispenser.
This jingle starts off starts off with a man asking "What is it?" with the chorus responding "Say..." The question is repeated at a higher note by a different man with the chorus responding "Hey, why it's Buttercup ... Popcorn." The common version cuts out the first half of this Q&A.
This version also sings "Add sweet cream butter.." while the common one sings "Add sweet butter.." "Cream" is edited out in the common version.
