Student entrepreneur to presidential candidates: Paying business taxes felt like a kick in the pants

In 2008, Therese Kuster, a student at the University of Northern Iowa, voted in her first election.
But even though she did her research, she went to the polls more out of duty and novelty.

Today, in her new role of an entrepreneur, the 22-year-old understands that her vote is more than just a number. And like the astute and dauntless business owner that she is, she does not want to waste it on a candidate who does not have a specific plan to help the small business community in tangible ways.
The winner of the just established 211 Student Entrepreneur award said that paying business taxes for the first time in her life felt like a kick in the pants, a realization that made her viscerally understand the impact her vote will have on her future development.
