On June 3, 2010, We Can! Program Coordinator, Karen Donato, S.M., announced We Can!'s first-ever video contest. We Can! community sites and partners were called on to create a 15-, 30-, or 60-second video promoting one or more of We Can!'s three key messages: improving food choices, increasing physical activity, and reducing screen time. The goal of the contest was to educate and encourage parents and youth ages 8 to 13 to engage in one or more of these three We Can! behaviors in order to maintain health and prevent disease.
NHLBI received several entries through the We Can! Contest Group on YouTube from community sites and partners all over the country—the submissions were creative, entertaining, and engaging! Video submissions were then posted to the We Can! Facebook page for a public vote. Over 1,500 votes were cast in the 19 days that voting was open, and these votes determined the overall winner.
Congratulations to Fremont Community Health in Minneapolis, Minnesota for submitting the runner-up video!
