Of course straight line speed, for example that of the M3, is proportional to the power output not the power to weight ratio due to drag. More importantly, I think is that, the fun of driving on the track is the force you feel under braking and through the corners, not the speed you reach on the straights.
Look out for both of use as we head to snetterton at the end of September. Both Rob and could could win our class and the over RGB championship this year!

The power to weight of your cars suggests they should be quick. Its the lightweight and sheer cornering ability that attracts me. Great news that you have improved the handling, I assume its all about time in the car getting it right. It looked a bit of a handfull at times thats for sure. Good Luck to both of you with the racing, i'll keep my eyes open for more vids. :)

The saloon car at Silverstone was a M3, so should have been quick. RGB cars are not that quick in a straight line (135mph max at Donington), but are superb for cornering and braking due to their light weight. Whether you have a fireblade fury or a zx12 BDN you're going to have a lot of fun (with a zx12r BDN you just have less time to wait between corners).

As the driver of the BDN in question I might be able to shed some light on its abilities. The videos you would have seen are a year old and since then we have been working to improve the car. The handling is now completely different and as a result the car is a lot quicker than what you have seen. I wouldn't judge all mid engined cars (including the BDN) based on those videos!

I've yet to drive one, so I'm not sure what to expect with both straightline speed or performance. Can you recommend a chasis?

Thanks for the excellent replies mate. Your car looks like fun, sideways, but controllable. I've watched a few vids with BDN mid engined car and it looks very nervous compared to the front engined stuff, even if it is quicker. There was actually a saloon car at Silverstone(3 series maybe) that looked to have more straightline speed than the zx12. I've looked at the caterfields and the fury style cars. Mid engine'd don't look that dual purpose to me.
Great stuff, I was suprised to read both top running cars are zx12s and not busas. Do the 7 style cars have a handling disadvantage over the BDN and such styled cars? Or is it more engine? Thinking of getting a busa powered 7 myself.

Yes current leading Class A cars are running ZX12s. They are limited to engines with max quoted 180BHP so either ZX12 and Busa really. ZX12 revs higher with less mid range which does not hamper it much in racing and its cheaper than a Busa.

Definitely an advantage in racing with having a mid engined car but its whether you can make that work for you. There have been very successful front engined cars in the championship before like Andy Charley's Striker. Just bear in mind if you are going on track you will need a dry sump with your busa and check the diff ratio carefully to suite your use. Good luck and I am sure you will love that much power in a kit car :)

Class C in RGB are all carb Honda Fireblade engines. Cheap to buy, amazingly reliable, light weight and with lots or revs :) Full details can be found on the 750 motor club site
