Chocolate Menta Mastik performing "Emor Shalom" ("Say Hello"), the Israeli entry at the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest.

One of my personal favorites from that year, a wonderfully playful, wittingly old-fashioned number with a flawless performance by the three girls of the group. Note that the one with the long black hair in the middle is Yardena Arazi, who'd later become one of Israel's biggest stars, even having a much-publicised rivalry with the country's other platinum-selling artist, Ofra Haza. Yardena would also return twice more on the ESC stage, as the contest's co-host in 1979 and - again - representing Israel in 1988.

  • A minor mistake you have, Tasos- none of them were serving at the IDF at that time. They all finished there military service about 4 years before that contest (they already appeared in the Israeli song festival 1973 as civilians)

  • Oops, sorry for that (I guess that either I or my sources were mistaken). Consider it fixed!

  • Did the Chocolate Girls release an English-language version of this song?

  • @refohtiew: It rather was the other way around, that Morocco only could enter that year because Israel didn't.

  • This takes me back - Released on HEDARZIBAN 14591 - LP. My Aunt was holidaying in Israel that year, asked her to try to get it for me - she duly did - and I still have it on glorious vinyl! Nice to see this video footage again too!

  • @TheBlueyedblond thats a stupid comment which has absolutely nothing to do with The Eurovision Song Contest

  • Emor Shalom means Say Hello, and this comment was posted on World Hello Day. You might as well say hello, maybe through this song.

  • @Woollylinnet But because Morocco entered ESC, Israel took not part in it! Therefore Morocco resigned - up to now!

  • One of my favourite ever Eurovision songs - can't believe it didn't win, great to hear it again!

  • the best song of Eurovision 1976

  • the best song !
