Here are 3 different mac. Each of them exhibits the same flashing screen saver. Although for each of these laptops, the flurry screen saver is shown, the same problem has appeared when using a different screen saver from the ones Apple provides on the computer. The problem first appeared when I upgraded from Panther to Tiger on the PowerBook. It has remained over the next generation of laptops that our family has come in the possession of. The problem happens randomly and rarely when I've wanted to show it to a Apple store genius. I have made videos, but despite this evidence Apple has yet to provide a remedy n terms of a software fix.

This problem will not go away until Apple takes it seriously and tries to fix it.

  • I have the same problem on my 2007 macbook pro 17inch, but only noticed it tonight. Were you able to get yours fixed under warranty or did it stop itself?

  • Apple has basically stopped replying to my case #. I have reproduced the issue for them at the Apple Store. They basically have no fix for this issue. My MB Pro early 2008 is under Apple Care, but Apple seems to have taken the stance that I'm crazy despite the evidence I've provided in terms of video and live reproduction of the issue at the Apple Store. I know that this is a problem with these computers or their software since Tiger. Apple is essentially stonewalling. Their cut. serv is cruel.

  • I did not install a third part screen saver. This is the default OSX "flurry" screen saver that is exhibiting this behavior. I see how may have mislead you into thinking that a different screen saver was also used. I apologize I wasn't very clear. What I meant was that other screen savers besides the "flurry," the default screen saver on Mac's have exhibited the same behavior. On my PB I tried the one with the planets, and it exhibited the same problem.

  • "the same problem has appeared when using a different screen saver from the ones Apple provides on the computer."

What 3rd party screensaver did you install, first of all. How old is it?

Given the range of hardware and operating systems, I suspect your screensaver software is at fault... not OSX. Maybe you can check with the vendor or other users of the screensaver program.. see if there's an update/fix/acknowledgement... or not use it.
