I wish parents would discourage their kids from doing this. I work with wildlife, and I see this too often (with parents just looking on, amused). People don't realize that the Migratory Bird Act can level significant fines and jail time for any harassment of wild birds. Birds are legally protected from any kind of harassment. Chasing, kicking or throwing things at wild birds causes severe stress, in addition to violating the law. Please teach your kids to be gentle and respectful instead.
