Bullmastiff 63,5 to 68,5 cm, 50 to 59 kg
Fila Brasileiro 65 to 75 cm, 60 to 70 kg

The Fila is this example might look a bit like a blookdhound but that is it. The Bullmastif might seems to have more power but in real life the fila would be the dog you should be afraid for.

@maynord1420 We 6 Filás The one in the video does not like strangers. His son is ok with stranges when we are around, which I think is great because the dog should listen when you are there and not attack everyone. That said when we are not there this mal is worse than his father.

@JackKangaroo1 I don't think I'm 100% Sure! As I'm pretty sure you have never seen in person a real fila. I don't mean the american ones with shit temp and mixed blood. I have both one from the states. Which is black that should of been the first warning he wasn't real (still a great loving dog) And one from Brasil CANIL Itanhandu. And their is no way he gets touched or even stared at by strangers. People sweat balls when their around him. However I love both dogs equally and are great!

@maynord1420 Well, as they say, opinions are like assholes.....everybody has one. If you think they're the greatest guard dog on the planet, that's fine with me.

@JackKangaroo1 You have absolutely no Idea what your talking about.... Don't judge a book by its cover. Filas have been known to take fatal wounds and still thrash their attacker. Filas aren't fighting dogs but they are far more superior in personal human protection than any other breed on the planet

@mmilos11 Yes, I also dislike dogs to be attack trained. In the past I've owned Dobermans and a German Shepherd but my dog these days is a beautiful Golden Retriever who loves everybody. He's my best friend and I can take him anywhere without worry that he might ever hurt anyone. Would he defend me in an attack? I don't know, but I don't have him for that reason anyway. I can defend myself.

@JackKangaroo1 I totally agree with you . I hate people who use dogs as weapons, but in my case I did not have the other choice. Dog is really man's best friend

@Desolcasa That is so true..Fila is really loyal fearless dog .Even my life was jeopardized ,I felt sorry for the guy who lost his fingers.

@mmilos11 There are a lot of great dog guardian breeds. German Shepherds, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Reisenschnauzers, Kuvaszok, Bullmastiffs will all rip into an attacker with considerable ferocity. I spoke to one man who was attacked by three guys at a service station after a brief argument. His 42 lb Bull Terrier put all three of them in the hospital. Filas are great protectors but so are lots of other breeds.

@Desolcasa I did not compare any of these breeds to what they were 100 years ago, you are the one doing that. I compared today's Bullmastiff to today's Fila, and compared the Fila to today's Bloodhound. Whatever they were like 100 years ago is no longer relevant. And I will stick by my original statement that the Fila physically resembles a brown Bloodhound and that the Bullmastiff looks far more intimidating.
Oh mmilos thats a horrible experience for you, you were very lucky your fila was there, a true fila will defend you with his life, and for this he is such an imazing dog. His loyalty to its family is unbelievable.

I know they are both excellent guard dogs and have about equal physical power but to me the Bullmastiff looks far more intimidating than the Fila. The Fila resembles a Bloodhound, which are great cadaver dogs but not at all ferocious. Of course, a Kuvasz resembles a white Golden Retriever also but has a far different mindset, so I realize that physical resemblance can be deceiving. They are all good at what they were bred to do.

@JackKangaroo1 Today's Bloodhound is not the Bloudhound of 100 or 200 years ago. The typical behavior a fila has towards stranged is said to originate from the bloodhoud.
You should not compare the breeds how they are today and were 100 years ago. For most breeds this is completely different. The Bullastif was different 100 year ago. Fact is the fila has not changed that much because it's population is small and it's never been a very popular breed.
