This is an unfinsihed work of of an album I hope to get out this year based on Chinatown. It's about twelve or so songs of completed instrumental tracks, but the lyric an' vocals are yet to be settled on. The "Chinatown" started out originally as an experiment up in the woods of the LA Forest when I bought a new voice recorder an' plugged my acoustic into it direct an' got a nice "overdrive" distortion. The only thing was I couldn't do the vocal, so I went ahead an' recorded the guitar tracks an' tried then to record a seperate vocal track, karaoke style in the caves, then walk 5 miles into town to mix the two tracks together at the local library PC's. The only song I made any headway on was "To Die For#1", but as you can tell by what I've already posted here, I went back an' did a complete demo without any mixing involved, just some processing of the single demo track.
This song is based on the song "Silver and Gold" that Bono and Keith Richards recorded on the "Sun City" album, though my politiics are very different fromt heirs. The Gold Line is the fairly new light rail line in LA that I used to take every week or so into the city and Chinatown listenin'to the songs I had recorded up in the mines on the way in.
This ain't the greatest video but it's a start.MOstly an'experiment in dissolves an' cutting.
The old lady at the end who says, "You make me crazy", I actually met...she must be the "Madame Kai-Shek" of Chinatwon as she knows a gun-for-hire when she see's one..She tried to hook me up with a waitress at the restaurant I used to frequent...but knowin' the history of sellin'girls in the history of Chinatown, an' the way this girl was bein'presented to me...I wasn't too enamored of the idea ..an' laid low an' let it pass by. As much as I would have loved the companion...I figured there's got to be a better way of goin' about it.
I'm also thinkin' of a way of updating the 1974 movie, "Chinatown"..and perhaps tying it into this work. If anyone wants to develop that with me send me a note.
