I saw quite a bit more than just the "right and left" sides of that chart, but I accept your criticism of my comment that I read more politics into this than was probably there. Lessig's politics are revealed in the examples and images he selects, and for me that lessened the potential impact of the main point of the piece, which I agree with.

How is artists not getting paid for doing nothing a problem?
How is people relying on independant sources rather than biased media outlets a problem?
How is the public not having faith in a corrupt government a problem?
wtf this guy has lost the plot, and it's not abolishing copyright, it's *repealing* copyright, a change back to before this fucked up law was introduced.

I think this was a pretty good common sense presentation on the art of compromise. It's rediculous to be basically in the same place we were 10 years ago with these IP issues. Lessig mentions "compensation" for rights holders as key. (well duh) That's exactly what the rights holders community has been f#@&$## up about!

I never ever comment on youtube videos, but I had to respond to this. Did you just hit "stop" after the 27th minute? This talk has nothing to do with partisanship. Lessig's "right and left" could have been "up or down" or "back and forward" and his point stands. One "extreme" wants to remove all restrictions. The other wants to TOTALLY restrict (aka kill the internet). That's his point. You saw "right v. left" and MADE it into politics. When in reality, you should have seen policies.

EVERYTHING from the right "Kills the Internet" ?!? The talk as a whole raises some extremely valid and important points. Points that can and SHOULD be discussed and debated by rational people from across the political spectrum. But damn if it isn't a shame to see such an intellect as Mr. Lessig caught in the same partisan trap as so many before. Do we not teach basic forensics (debate) skills any more? Are straw men so easy to construct?
