A rare, late night, June thunderstorm rumbles over the city of Manteca, California at 1:10 am and continues to 1:21 pm. There was a ton of lightning and brisk winds with this one. The reason, these types are thunderstorms are rare, because June is usually where the state of California transistions into the driest part of the year and thunderstorms that do occure during this time of the year, are usually heated by afternoon sun and die off as the sun sets. These thunderstorms are associated with an area of low pressure system passing overhead and creating an unstable enough atmosphere to keep these going well after the sun went down. The tunderstorms were unusually strong prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Severe Thunderstorm Warning earlier in the day for Colusa and Placer Counties. This was not a Severe Thunderstorm, but put on a spectacular show none the less.

  • great footage of the thunderstorm! i like thunderstorms. I live here in the Bay Area and we actually got some dry lightning early last Saturday of September 12, 2009.

  • I missed those and my dad told me about the ones that occured on September 12, 2009. Too bad I missed those.

  • Wow, nice captures! I slept throught that too. 5/5

  • Woke the whole house up including both of my parents. Unfortunately, the shots from their balcony didn't turn out as good as these.

  • i live in california in da bay area and it totally missed us but you can see the huge clouds over the hills towards pleasanton.

  • This storm nailed Tracy but gave Manteca a brief heavy downpour and some strong winds.

  • Nice video Jeff, but try this one on for size!

  • That same afternoon on the 4th, you may have heard the Oregon Willamette Valley getting a line of severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and large hail. Even a tornado was reported!

  • This storm followed Interstate 5 all the way towards Sacramento.
