  • @IThinkYouLookLarvely : Thank you for your message Martin. There were three power rating for the engines that were fitted in the Broom 37 and Broom Ocean 37. They were 115hp, the aforementioned 145hp, and 175hp. Yes, it is a good 10 knots above the standard river boats. All the best, Andrew

  • @kappucinokid Youtube aren't keen on verbose posts so I ended up deleting words, including "Ocean"- that's the one I'm looking at, a Broom Ocean 37! You know your stuff, the engines are the type as you mentioned, and didn't know of the top speed, so thanks for that. A good 10 knots or so above the max for the standard river boats I guess, and a lot more power. Thanks for your useful replies, all the best. Martin

  • @IThinkYouLookLarvely :Hello, thank you for your reply. The Broom 37 with twin 145hp engines (they will be Perkins 6354s) sounds like a safe bet or even its Aquafibre relative, the Ocean 37. Top whack of these boats is 18 knots. I wish you happy hunting. Andrew.

  • @kappucinokid ...with 2 x 145hp engines and all the navigation gear. The ones you suggested are certainly worth consideration, though thinking a bit bigger for the possibility of a liveaboard. I probably wouldn't spend longer than necessary on the sea, it's just I love the Norfolk rivers, but want to live in Lincolnshire still, so a sea trip would be necessary, and feel something well equipped would be a good idea. Still have a bit to learn myself, so not in a rush for sea voyages! Thanks again

  • @kappucinokid Hi, thanks for taking the trouble to reply, yes it's the first one. Have since spoken to experts, and they say the same sort of thing as yourself. At the time I'd just read that a skipper had taken a Calypso 28 from the Humber to Yarmouth, but said it was a bit of a pain, so thought a larger, but similar boat might be better, but no, they only have a single 45(ish) hp engine, and the hulls were designed with just rivers in mind, which makes sense! Currently looking at a Broom 37...

  • @IThinkYouLookLarvely : Hello, not sure if you had a reply to your query. Now, I am not a boating expert but the boats I can suggest for a short(ish) sea passages to other river estuaries would be a Seamaster 30, Broom 30, Broom 32. Somehow, I don't think the Bounty 37 or Horizon 35 type boats might be suitable.

  • Hi cheesychive, take hols with Richardsons twice a year, & it's interesting to see the quay from this angle. Thinking of a liveaboard eventually, but a simple question, which believe it or not I can't get an easy answer for elsewhere... Are the Horizon 35 type boats (or ones with similar shape) ok for navigating into the sea for a short(ish) journey to other river estuary? If not, what other boats of same size / price are more suitable for that? Thinking Seamaster or Broom. Sorry to ask on here!

  • I have just come off a boat

  • When are richardsons going to put worthwhile engines in? OR just give up? hahaha.

Oh by the way, since you work there, how many boats does the company have? just wondering as i dont know if they're privately owned or not?
