BELO MONTE dam #2 (STPI side event - Cochabamba, Bolivia)

As part of it's campaign to stop dams in the amazon, Rebecca Sommer (Earthpeoples) organised a side event about the Belo Monte dam, at the World Peoples Conference on Climate Change and Mother Earth Rights, along with a large number of co-sponsors, NGOs and indigenous organisations that are working with communities that are impacted by the construction of large hydroelectric dams. The Belo Monte dam would be the 3rd largest dam in the world, and as large as the Panama Canal.

This project will be the beginning of the end of the amazone area. Exploitation and short term money sell out companies will kill the enviroment. It cant be restored later. Even Nuclear would be better.

The Dams will cost more and DESTROY more than it will benifit to Brazil. certainly the common peple will NOT. Even nuclear energy is better than this crazy plan.
