Using the documents directory in your app can be useful if your app stores usernames, passwords, files, documents, or even images. The documents directory is definitely useful for apps that require usernames so they store the above just for the user.

In the pushSave method the *content pointer is allocated. Do I have to release it at the end of it? Although you release the *content pointer in the pushRefresh method it's not pointing to the same memory location I presume.
