Be straight-forward and honest with a creationist and he may become confused.

When you are raised on lies, the truth can often seem confusing.

  • Home schooled, there's a shocker.

  • Hey corthew, so much to say on this issue but I'll save it for when the time comes. Remember that anything anybody ponders is always pondered in relation to something else, be it a God made world, or an evolved world or how tasty sugar is or anything etc. He is foolish for simply turning away from good argument but should educate himself further on the matter. I can say much about it but dont want to get into petty arguments. Good videos, I subscribed, I hope to continue talking to you.

  • @squirrelflight I accept that point but regards genuine science versus faith then the fundamentalist home teacher is little better, if not at all, than the Muslim faith schools that we are allowing over here.

It doesn't always work. One of my exes was home-schooled by her mother, whose strategy was to learn along side the kids. This broke down when she wasn't able to learn French well enough to teach it (instead Dad taught them Spanish).

I wasn't trying to really defend home-schooling: I think it's inferior to schooling by professional teachers. I was merely saying that it isn't quite as bad as some make is seem (except for the French, the ex was able to do well at university).

  • @squirrelflight That's very interesting. I live and learn but i just don't see how it works. I can't imagine many parents reaching the necessary level of expertise in subjects ranging from English literature, French etc to Chemistry , Biology, Physics and Maths. Even professional teachers have to specialise. As for not having a well equiped lab, then that's no problem for adult creationists "scientists" so i guess it shouldn't be a problem for fundie kids.

It's not as bad as it may seem. There are many people who home-school, not out of a desire to indoctrinate their children with religiosity, but as a means to pick up where schools fail.

There are lots of decent curricula for parents to choose from if they want to teach. The primary things missing in my mind is the equipment needed for certain subject. You can't teach good chemistry or physics without a well-equipped lab, which is likely beyond most parents.

  • Dude, this is the saddest thing I've ever seen.

  • @millerelex I come across people like corthew has many times. It crushes me when I find people so willing to close their minds. But then I hear about people such as you, and it make all of this worth while. Thanks.

  • A scientifically illiterate populace is not conducive with modernity, let alone progress. This kind of thing is a microspeck in the grand scheme but it perfectly illustrates a major facet of the problem.

  • Should someone who sincerely believes that walking is sinful qualify for public disability assistance in the same way as someone without legs?
