Laser Frostbite racing 2007-8 season at Seawanhaka Yacht Club, Long island, NY. A mild winter, a fleet of 51 boats assured good turnouts every Sunday afternoon.

The onboard shots were taken with Oregon Scientific ATC 1000 and ATC 2000 wearable cameras (my 1000 died halfway through the season.) Most of the headcam footage isn't usable, it's best to get lots of shots and edit later. This vid was made from 7 hours and 45 minutes of headcam footage, and about 15 minutes of footage from a DV tape cam.

  • What are the rules concerning contact between the boats?

Or is it like hockey - rubbing and bumping is part of the sport?

It's like the "Days of Thunder" movie - rubbin is racin son! Actually the frostbite fleet is very good about doing penalty turns after contact-we haven't had a protest hearing in ages. We do have winter rules-only one turn for a foul rather than two because the courses are short and the water is cold! If you haven't raced before, we don't have referees-a fouled boat calls "protest" & the other boat usually takes the penalty.
